Freyburg Saale Unstrut Dornfelder dry

Freyburg Saale Unstrut Dornfelder dry
An uncomplicated red wine from the northernmost German quality wine growing region – the Saale-Unstrut region around Freyburg on the Unstrut river.
The Freyburg-Unstrut winegrowers' association is the largest winegrowers' cooperative in the region and cultivates vineyards on limestone and variegated sandstone soils. Cellar master Hans-Albrecht Zieger is responsible for the vineyards and cellar. Dornfelder – one of the most reliable red wine grape varieties in the cool Saale-Unstrut climate – ripens early and produces deep color and pronounced fruit even in northern locations.
In the glass, it displays a ruby red color with a violet rim. The nose offers ripe black cherry, blackberry, and a hint of elderberry. On the palate, it is soft, with moderate tannins and fresh acidity that keeps the finish lively. Not a heavyweight – a straightforward, fruit-forward everyday red wine.
