Erbach Marcobrunn Riesling GG

Erbach Marcobrunn Riesling GG
The Marcobrunn is considered one of the great Riesling sites of the Rheingau — and Künstler's Großes Gewächs shows why. Not an easy entry-level wine, but a Riesling with substance and depth.
The Künstler winery in Hochheim am Main has been one of the most reliable addresses in the Rheingau for decades. The Erbach Marcobrunn site is located directly on the banks of the Rhine, on calcareous Taunus quartzite with clay deposits — a soil that gives the Riesling structure and mineral tension. As a Großes Gewächs, the wine represents the dry top class of German viticulture.
In the glass, ripe white peach and mirabelle plum appear, underpinned by a fine herbal spice and a hint of flint. The acidity is present but integrated — not a sharp cut, but a long, powerful framework that carries the wine. The finish is salty-mineral and lingers significantly.
Tasting & Serving: Served at 10–12 °C, it unfolds its full spectrum of aromas. Pairs well with zander fillet with beurre blanc, lobster, or a mature mountain cheese.

Rheingau since 1648. Today in Hochheim, managed by Gunter Künstler and his team. 42 hectares of vineyards on light, loamy soils. The focus is on Riesling – in many variations. Also cultivated are Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir. Among the best vineyard sites are the Hochheimer Hölle, the Kirchenstück, and the Rüdesheimer Berg Schlossberg. Around 300,000 bottles of wine are produced annually. Rheingau as it should be – precise, elegant, and full of character.
