Emil Bauer »Beachball« Viognier

The »Beachball« from Emil Bauer is a Viognier that combines the aromatic richness of this grape variety with Palatinate directness — vinified dry, yet round and accessible.

The Emil Bauer winery from Landau-Nußdorf is one of the reliable addresses in the Palatinate. The family has been working for generations in a region that offers ideal conditions for aromatically intense white wines due to its warm climate and diverse soils. The Viognier, originally from the northern Rhône Valley, finds a climate in the Palatinate that brings its typical strengths to the fore.

In the glass, it shows what Viognier is all about: aromas of white peach, apricot, and orange blossom, plus a hint of ginger in the background. The wine has body and melt without appearing heavy — the acidity keeps everything in balance, the finish remains floral-spicy.

Chilled to 10–12 °C, it goes well with dishes with their own aromatic profile: fried chicken with lemongrass, pumpkin soup with coconut milk, or a ripe Munster. It also does its job well as a companion to a summer evening on the terrace.
