Le Gallais Wiltinger Braune Kupp Riesling Auslese

An Auslese from the Wiltinger Braune Kupp – this is Mosel Riesling at a level that few vineyards worldwide reach. Finely sweet, but never heavy: The wine lives from a tension that you only understand once it is in the glass.

Le Gallais is the sister estate of Egon Müller, one of the most renowned Riesling producers on the Saar. The Braune Kupp in Wiltingen lies on blue slate and is considered one of the great single vineyards of the Saar – a soil that imparts an acidity and minerality to the grapes that no vinification process can imitate. Hand-harvesting, spontaneous fermentation, aging in old wooden barrels – the philosophy of the estate has remained unchanged for generations.

On the nose, apricot, preserved apples, mandarin, and candied citrus peel, with a subtle herbal note underneath. On the palate, the Auslese shows a firm core: the residual sweetness is compact and precisely embedded in lively slate minerality and finely spun acidity. The finish is long and penetrating, without becoming loud – a classic Saar profile.

Best served between 8 and 10 °C. Pairs well with foie gras, mild blue cheese, or a classic apple strudel – and is just as much of an experience in the glass on its own.
