Dürrenzimmern Mönchsberg Lemberger dry Erste Lage QW Württemberg 0.75L

A Lemberger that shows what Württemberg can achieve in its best locations: structured, profound, with the typical spiciness of the grape variety – but without the rustic heaviness that is sometimes attributed to this grape.

The Graf Neipperg winery is one of Württemberg's most traditional estates. The family has shaped the region for centuries, and the Mönchsberg vineyard near Dürrenzimmern is considered one of the most prestigious single vineyards in the Lemberger growing area. Its classification as a VDP Erste Lage (Premier Cru) underscores this: only parcels with proven terroir expression and strict yield regulations qualify for this classification. The grapes were harvested by hand, and the maceration process was carefully managed.

In the glass, the wine displays dark berry fruit – blackberry, black cherry – underpinned by peppery spice and a hint of lavender. The tannins are ripe and fine-grained, the acidity well-integrated, the finish long and slightly mineral. Not a heavyweight, but a red wine with finesse and depth.

Best served at 16–18 °C . Pairs well with herb-crusted lamb loin, venison ragout, or aged hard cheese. Aging it for two to four years will reward you with additional complexity.
