Dernauer Pfarrwingert Spätburgunder GG

The Pfarrwingert in Dernau bears its name for a good reason: the Catholic parish church is still the landowner of this plot today. What sounds like church history is, above all, an extraordinary site.

Meyer-Näkel has been one of the defining addresses for Pinot Noir on the Ahr for decades. The family manages its steep slopes with a focus on terroir expression — and the Pfarrwingert provides ideal conditions for this: southern exposure, steep slope, and a soil of greywacke, a granular debris sediment with clay slate fragments. This material warms up quickly, stores heat, and gives the wine its characteristic minerality.

In the glass, the Pinot Noir shows dark forest fruits — blackberry, black cherry — underpinned by earthy minerality, floral scent, and a hint of eucalyptus. Fine tea aromas and a cool spice give the wine complexity. The aging with new wood is noticeable but does not push itself forward: the oak blends in without overpowering the fruit. Medium to full body, silky tannin, long finish.

Serving temperature: 16–17 °C. Pairs well with venison fillet with wild cranberries, braised lamb shoulder, or mature Époisses.
