Pinot Noir Grauwacke QbA
The Spätburgunder “Grauwacke” QbA is the elegant village wine study from Meyer-Näkel in Dernau – one of the most influential Spätburgunder estates in the Ahr region and Germany. The name is a geological statement: Grauwacke is a dark grey to grey-green breccia sedimentary rock made of hard sandstone, which, in the steep slopes around Ahrweiler, gives the Spätburgunder that unmistakable minerality and depth that clearly distinguishes it from Burgundies of other regions.
After consistent yield reduction and gentle hand-harvesting, the grapes are fermented on the skins with natural yeasts for a maximum of 14 days – resulting in a fruit-forward wine with optimally integrated tannins. The wine then matures for ten months in used barriques, which accentuate its elegance without overpowering it.
In the glass, a bright, deep cherry red. The nose reveals intense, fresh fruit: cherries, blackberries, blueberries, and bilberries, accompanied by mineral notes of smoke and cocoa bean. On the palate, delicate and precise, with an elegant tannin structure and vibrant
