Coto de Imaz Rioja Gran Reserva

Four years of maturation before a bottle leaves the cellar — the Coto de Imaz Gran Reserva is the flagship of El Coto de Rioja and shows what the Gran Reserva category originally stood for.

El Coto de Rioja is one of the most renowned wineries in the Rioja Alta region. The Coto de Imaz matures for at least 24 months in American oak barrels , followed by a further two years of bottle aging. This combination allows the Tempranillo time to soften its tannins and develop complexity. The result also impressed the wine press: 95 points from Decanter (2022, 2016 vintage) .

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color with a garnet rim. Aromas of blackberry and black cherry mingle with vanilla, coconut, and a hint of tobacco—typical of long aging in American oak. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a long, spicy finish with notes of leather and dried fruit.

Food pairing: Lamb loin, Ibérico pork chops, or aged Manchego cheese. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Drinking window until 2030+, decanting for one hour is recommended.
