Costa Russi Barbaresco DOP 0.75L
The Costa Russi is Gaja's most single-varietal expression of Barbaresco-Nebbiolo from a single site: concentrated, multi-layered, and with the typical tension between power and elegance that has anchored Piedmont on the world map of wine.
The Gaja winery in Barbaresco has been considered a reference point in Piedmont for decades — Angelo Gaja made Nebbiolo internationally known and set standards with single-vineyard wines like the Costa Russi, the Sorì San Lorenzo, and the Sorì Tildìn. The Costa Russi site lies on gentle hills around the village of Barbaresco and yields grapes with a particularly soft tannin profile for a Barbaresco.
In the glass, the Costa Russi shows aromas of black cherry, blackberry, and plum, underpinned by notes of dried violets, licorice, and a hint of tobacco. The tannins are present but velvety — the acidity gives the wine backbone and length. The finish is long, spicy, and marked by a fine mineral line.
Best served at 16–18 °C, feel free to decant an hour before drinking. Classic pairing: brasato al Barolo, wild boar goulash, mature Parmigiano Reggiano, or truffle dishes from Piedmont.
