Château Sistine Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOP

Château Sistine Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOP
Old-school Châteauneuf-du-Pape: dense, fleshy, with an aroma profile that develops in the glass — not a wine for hasty consumption.
Jean-Marc Diffonty cultivates his vineyards in the southern Rhône Valley with a focus on old vines. Château Sixtine is his Grand Vin—made from grapes harvested from vines that, over decades, have sent deep roots into the famous galets roulés , the rounded quartz pebbles of the appellation. These soils store the sun's warmth from the Mistral climate and release it slowly to the grapes at night—this explains the ripe, full-bodied character of this cuvée.
In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose opens with aromas of dark blackberry, plum, and an earthy undertone of thyme and lavender—typical of the Grenache-dominated wines of this appellation. On the palate, it unfolds broadly and warmly: full-bodied, with supple tannins without any harsh edges, and a long finish with notes of black pepper and a hint of leather spice.
Serving temperature: 16–18 °C. Drinking window: now until 2030. Ideal with braised lamb with rosemary, wild boar ragout or a robust Ossau-Iraty from the Basque Country.
