Diffonty Cuvée du Vatican

Diffonty Cuvée du Vatican
A classic Châteauneuf-du-Pape with the weight and spice for which the southern Rhône Valley is known — yet surprisingly approachable.
Winery & Origin: Jean-Marc Diffonty cultivates his vineyards in the Châteauneuf-du-Pape AOP appellation, one of France's most prestigious red wine regions. The characteristic galets roulés —the rounded pebbles that store the day's heat and release it to the vines at night—significantly influence the style and ripeness of the grapes.
In the glass: Dark ruby red. On the nose, cherry liqueur, preserved plums, and a distinct peppery note, typical of the Grenache component. Also present are tobacco and dried garrigue herbs. On the palate, full-bodied, with velvety tannins and a warm, spicy finish.
Recommendation: Decant for at least 30 minutes. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with leg of lamb with rosemary, wild boar ragout, or mature cheeses such as Ossau-Iraty. Drinking window: now until 2030.
