Château Poujeaux Moulis-en-Médoc

Moulis-en-Médoc is one of the more compact appellations in the Médoc – and Château Poujeaux has been one of the most reliable addresses there for generations. The 2016 shows why the vintage is so celebrated in Bordeaux.

The vineyards are managed with high planting density and consistent canopy management, including green harvesting – classic Médoc craftsmanship that focuses on concentration rather than volume. In the glass, a dark cherry-plum red with a violet shimmer.

On the nose, blackcurrant, blueberry, and blackberry, followed by dried herbs, tobacco, and forest floor. Fine oak notes and a hint of licorice round off the bouquet. On the palate, structured, with the tannin backbone that distinguishes 2016 Bordeaux – ripe, but with substance for years to come. Falstaff and Jancis Robinson each awarded 93 points, Wine Spectator and Wine Enthusiast 91.

Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs well with braised leg of lamb, entrecôte with herb butter, or mature Comté.

Château Poujeaux

Moulis is experiencing a revival. In the mid-20th century, the Theil family reunited the estate and revitalized its reputation. In 2008, Philippe Cuvelier and his son Matthieu took over the property – bringing the talent they had already demonstrated at Château Clos Fourtet. Ambitious, dedicated, with sensitivity and savoir-faire. Supported by a strong team and oenologist Stéphane Derenencourt, they made targeted investments. Their goal: to move from the top of Moulis wines to the top of the Médoc Crus. The first vintage, 2008? A magnificent debut. Poujeaux is back – and now more than ever.
