Château Gazin

Pomerol at a classic level: The Château Gazin 2019 shows what the right bank of the Garonne clay can achieve in a warm vintage — ripe, but never heavy.

Château Gazin is one of the largest estates in Pomerol with around 26 hectares and is located right next to Pétrus on the famous clay plateau. The de Bailliencourt family has owned the Château for generations; Merlot dominates the planting with over 90%, supplemented by small proportions of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2019 grew in one of the warmest and most consistent vintages of the last decade — the berries ripened completely without losing freshness.

In the glass, deep ruby red. On the nose, ripe sour cherry, plum, and a distinct hint of mocha, plus hints of violets and fresh mint. On the palate, medium to full body, velvety tannins that have already integrated well, and a long finish with a spicy tobacco note. The acidity keeps the whole thing taut.

2024–2035. Now with decanting (approx. 45 minutes) or from 2026 without.
Temperature: 16–18 °C.
Pairs with: Rack of lamb with herb crust, entrecôte with truffle butter, or mature Époisses.
