Chateau Francs Magnus Bordeaux Superiore

A classic Bordeaux character from the Haut-Francs — dense, ripe fruit, firm tannins and a velvety finish that rewards patience.

Château Francs Magnus comes from the Côtes de Francs, one of the more compact appellations on the right bank of Bordeaux, east of Saint-Émilion. The clay-limestone soils of this enclave produce Merlot-dominated wines with a robust structure—less polished than the great Pomerol names, but with an honest, earthy character.

The 2015 vintage in Bordeaux was exceptionally warm and dry, resulting in ripe tannins and concentrated fruit. In the glass, the Magnus displays precisely this: blackberry, black plum, a hint of vanilla from the barrel aging, underpinned by a dry, slightly herbal note. The body is medium to full-bodied, the tannins firm, the finish dry and velvety — James Suckling rates it 89–90 points , while Neal Martin sees tannic power and aging potential.

Best enjoyed now in a carafe or for another 1–2 years in the cellar. Pairs well with entrecôte with herb butter, leg of lamb with rosemary, or strong hard cheese. Serving temperature: 16–18 °C.

Chateau Francs Magnus

Arnaud Roux-Oulié took over Château Carlmagnus at the age of 20 and planted two hectares of vines around his estate. The estate's name was inspired by Emperor Charlemagne, who stayed in the region and built a fortress. Since then, the château has become one of the jewels of Fronsac and enjoys international acclaim. In 2011, Arnaud acquired a new vineyard, Francs-Magnus (Bordeaux Supérieur). With his 2020 vintage, he vinified new vintages using organic farming methods for both Château Carlmagnus and Francs-Magnus. The winemaker's ambitions for his vineyards don't stop there. Many new products will be launched soon.
