Château de Haute-Serre Icône AOP Cahors 0.75L
The Icône is the flagship of Château de Haute-Serre – a Cahors-Malbec that shows what this appellation in the southwest of France can achieve when sites and craftsmanship come together.
Château de Haute-Serre is located on the Causses plateau above the Lot loop, where the limestone-rich soil gives the Malbec a different depth than in the sites near the river. The winery belongs to the Vigouroux family, who have been among the defining forces of the Cahors Renaissance for decades and have made the appellation internationally known. The Icône stands for the top of the range – a selection of the best parcels.
In the glass, it shows what distinguishes Cahors-Malbec from its Argentine counterpart: darker fruit, more structure. Blackberry and black plum, plus notes of graphite and dried herbs. The tannins are firm but not rough – they carry the wine and promise aging potential. The finish is long, with a mineral note that is reminiscent of the limestone of the plateau.
Best served at 16–18 °C, ideally decanted an hour beforehand. Pairs well with cassoulet, duck breast with plum reduction, or a strong piece of beef from the grill.
