Château Cantemerle Haut-Médoc
Château Cantemerle is one of the oldest estates in the Haut-Médoc — vines have been cultivated here since the 16th century, and since the classification of 1855, the estate has held the title of Cinquième Cru Classé. The vines grow on gravelly, well-drained soils near Macau, south of Margaux.
In the glass, it displays a dark ruby red with violet reflections. The nose offers ripe black cherries, blueberries, and wild raspberries, along with a hint of cherry blossom and plum jam. On the palate, it is clearly structured with velvety tannins, notes of licorice and tobacco in the background, and a long finish with subtle spice.
- Grape varieties: classic Médoc blend, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates
- Drinking window: now until 2030
- Temperature: 16–18 °C, ideally decant one hour beforehand
- Dishes: Lamb loin with herb crust, entrecôte, mature Comté cheese
The 2016 vintage was rated 90 points by Wine Spectator — a solid testament to the quality of a classic that showcases Bordeaux craftsmanship without grand gestures.
Château Cantemerle is one of the great classics of the Médoc – and has been for centuries. As a Fifth Growth Classé since 1855, the estate lies in the southernmost tip of the Haut-Médoc, nestled within one of the most beautiful château parks in the Gironde.
What makes Cantemerle stand out? An elegant signature that runs through every vintage: velvety tannins, dark fruit, and that typical Médocan structure – reliable without ever becoming boring. A wine that deserves time and rewards it with pleasure.
