Catena Alta Chardonnay

From the Adrianna vineyard in the high altitudes of Mendoza comes one of the most convincing Chardonnays in South America — complex, with fine wood play and genuine depth.

Catena Zapata has been the reference address for high-altitude wines in Argentina for decades. The Adrianna vineyard is located at an altitude of around 1,500 meters in the Gualtallary zone in the Uco Valley — extreme climate, barren soils, intense sunlight, cool nights. These are exactly the conditions that give the Chardonnay its tension.

Fermented in French barriques, followed by 14 months of lees aging in wood. In the nose, citrus peel, ripe pear, and mirabelle, plus a hint of white peach and subtle vanilla from the barrel aging. On the palate, dense and structured, with lively acidity that gives the wine length and freshness. The finish is creamy, mineral, and persistent.

Drinking temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs with lobster with butter sauce, veal fillet in cream sauce, aged Comté, or a hearty risotto with porcini mushrooms.

The Winery

Catena Zapata

Catena Zapata stands for a history deeply rooted in the Andes. Nicolás Catena Zapata was one of the first to bring Argentine Malbec to the world stage – not with volume, but with conviction and patience. The vineyards are located in Mendoza, some at an altitude of over 1,500 meters.

Where the air is thin and the sun is intense, grapes ripen slowly and develop a depth that you can feel immediately in the glass: dark berries, a hint of violets, velvety warmth – and always that elegant freshness that high-altitude sites bring with them. Today, daughter Laura runs the winery with scientific ambition and true passion.

She researches which old grape varieties and soils of Argentina are still slumbering – and brings the result into the bottle. You can taste it: wines with character, attitude, and a story worth telling.
