Castano Hécula

The Hécula from Bodegas Castaño is a classic representative of the DO Yecla — full-bodied, warm and with the unmistakable depth that Monastrell brings from old vines.

Bodegas Castaño has cultivated vineyards in Yecla, one of Spain's most compact and distinctive DOs in southeastern Murcia, for generations. The hot, dry climate and low-lime soils give the Monastrell its characteristic concentration. Hécula has been a core wine in their portfolio for years, winning numerous international awards, including gold at the 2017 Korean Wine Challenge and silver at Mundus Vini 2017. Over ten vintages have received at least 90 points from wine fairs and critics.

In the glass, it displays a deep ruby red color. The nose offers blackberry, plum, and a hint of dried herbs. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with rounded tannins and a warm spiciness on the finish—typical of Monastrell from sun-drenched terroir. Not an angular wine, but rather comfortably structured.

Bodegas Castaño

Bodegas Castaño – a family story that began with Ramón Castaño Santa. In the 1950s, he produced his first wines and recognized the potential of the Monastrell grape early on. Today, the family cultivates almost 500 hectares around Yecla in southeastern Spain. Intense sun, demanding soils – you can taste it: depth, warmth, character. Monastrell is their passion. Dark, full-bodied, ripe berries, velvety finish. From fresh young wines to mature barrel-aged wines from ancient vines. Some are certified organic. Wine with history and surprises.
