Ampio Maremma Toscana IGT

Ampio Maremma Toscana IGT
The Ampio is Le Mortelle's flagship red wine – aged for 18 months in new French oak barrels, followed by another year in the bottle. The result is a structured Maremma red wine with genuine aging potential.
Le Mortelle belongs to the Antinori family and is located in southern Tuscany, near Castiglione della Pescaia. The soils of the Maremma – heavy clays interspersed with sand and limestone – give the wines a dense, earthy base. The winery focuses on Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Vermentino; the Ampio is the red wine that receives the most time and cellaring.
On the nose, it displays blackcurrant, cassis, and a distinct cedar note from the barrel aging. On the palate, dark plum and a hint of graphite emerge. The tannins are firm yet ripe and well-integrated – no harsh finish, but rather a long, spicy length with a subtle tobacco note.
Serving temperature 17–18 °C, drinking window until 2030. Decant for 30–45 minutes before pouring. Pairs well with Bistecca alla Fiorentina, braised leg of lamb, or aged Pecorino Toscano.
