Alión double magnum in 1 wooden case 3.0L

The Alión 2022 from the Ribera del Duero shows what this high plateau region in the heart of Castile can do: depth and freshness in one glass, without one displacing the other. Clear red and dark fruit, fine spice in the background, the wood integrated rather than dominant.

Bodegas Alión belongs to the Vega-Sicilia group and was founded in 1991 to define a more modern style of Ribera del Duero — concentrated but accessible, with clean fruit expression instead of heavy extract. The 2022 consistently implements this: dense and juicy on the palate, with precise structure and lively texture that never lets the wine feel heavy despite its substance. An Alión that is approachable earlier than many previous vintages.

The double magnum with 3.0 liters is the right format for a special evening — the large volume slows down maturation in the bottle, which gives the wine additional time and uniformity. Served at 16–18 °C, it pairs well with leg of lamb with a herb crust, Iberian suckling pig, or aged Manchego.

The Bodega

Bodegas Alión

Alión is one of the quiet greats of the Duero Valley. The winery was founded in 1991 as an independent project by Vega Sicilia – with the goal of creating a modern Ribera del Duero that is accessible earlier than the legendary Vega Sicilia wines, but breathes the same precision. Exclusively Tempranillo, twelve months in French oak. The result: dark fruit, velvety tannin, long finish. Drinking window usually 8–15 years after harvest.
