CVNE –
five generations of Rioja from Haro
CVNE was founded in 1879 by the Real de Asúa brothers in Haro – in the heart of the Rioja Alta, where the best Tempranillo sites in the region are located. Today, the family runs the house in the fifth generation and manages over 1,000 hectares of its own vineyards, more than any other private owner in Spain.
Behind the name are three independent bodegas with three clearly different characters: the historic CVNE with its storage cellar designed by Gustave Eiffel, Viña Real with its striking architecture in the Rioja Alavesa, and Contino – the first winery in Rioja to work consistently according to the château principle, i.e., vinifying exclusively grapes from its own vineyard. Each bodega brings its own style, from the accessible CUNE to the storable Imperial Gran Reserva.
The Imperial Gran Reserva 2004 was the first Spanish wine ever to be named Wine of the Year by Wine Spectator – proof that Rioja tradition and international standards are not a contradiction. At Vinoscout, you will find a selection from all three bodegas, from the everyday CUNE wines to the aged Reservas and Gran Reservas.
