Château Carbonneau is located between St-Emilion and Bergerac and only began wine production in 1996. Since then, the goal has been set to produce the best possible wine with the available resources of soil, climate, and existing labor. At the beginning, as the winemakers of the Château say about themselves, they had many young vines and little experience. But with enthusiasm and a lot of perseverance, they have managed today to get the best out of their grapes. This is how wines like the Cuvée Séquoïa, made from 52% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, and 22% Cabernet Sauvignon, are created. Through an 11-month aging of the wine in American oak barrels, it develops a delicate vanilla aroma and well-integrated tannins.

Château Carbonneau is located in southwestern France, geographically between St-Émilion and Bergerac —two appellations that give the estate a unique position: the classic Bordeaux structure on one side, the somewhat wilder Dordogne on the other. Wine has been produced here since 1996, and the beginnings were deliberately modest: young vines, little experience, but plenty of curiosity and perseverance.

Today, we see the results of this approach. The Cuvée Séquoïa combines 52% Merlot, 26% Cabernet Franc, and 22% Cabernet Sauvignon—a blend that combines depth of fruit with structure. Eleven months of aging in American oak barrels give the wine a delicate vanilla aroma and tannins that blend smoothly into the overall profile. Not a loud wine, but one that unfolds beautifully in the glass with a little time.
