Bodegas José Luis Ferrer
Bodegas José Luis Ferrer –
Mallorca's oldest winery from Binissalem
Bodegas José Luis Ferrer is one of the founding figures of Mallorcan winemaking. When José L. Ferrer opened his winery in Binissalem in 1931, bottling was not yet commonplace on the island—he introduced it, as well as aging in oak barrels and exporting to Europe and the USA. What was considered pioneering work back then is today the foundation of a winery that has never denied its roots.
The oldest cellar, dating from 1931, is still standing. An extension was added in 1960, followed in 1995 by temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks for more precise fermentation. In 2006, the great-grandchildren brought in new oak vats for handcrafted wines produced in small batches—a sign that the family is not just managing the business, but actively developing it further.
The glass reveals what Mallorca has to offer in terms of wine: the native Manto Negro grape variety for full-bodied red wines with Mediterranean warmth, and Prensal Blanc for fresh, aromatic white wines. Wines that don't hide their origin.
