Wiltinger Braune Kupp Spätlese Le Gallais

Spätlese from one of the most idiosyncratic single vineyards of the Saar — the Wiltinger Braune Kupp belongs to the Le Gallais winery, which has been managed by Egon Müller for decades. This connection of two Saar institutions makes the wine one of the classic addresses for German Riesling with aging potential.

The Braune Kupp lies on blue Devonian slate in Wiltingen, one of the coldest wine-growing locations on the Saar. This coolness creates Riesling with a pronounced acidity structure and fine spice — the counter-design to opulent, alcohol-heavy white wines. Egon Müller vinifies traditionally: natural fermentation, aging in large wooden casks, no interference with the residual-sweet elegance of a Spätlese.

In the glass, peach and ripe apricot appear, underscored by white pepper and a clear slate tone. The acidity carries the sweetness without covering it up — a balance that gives the wine length on the tongue. The finish is mineral, cool, and lasts for several seconds.
