Vigna Covà DOC Lessona 0.75L

Lessona is one of the oldest and smallest DOC appellations in Piedmont — and one of the most underestimated. While the world looks at Barolo and Barbaresco, a Nebbiolo grows here in the Alto Piemonte on marine sand soils with a volcanic subsoil that shows itself quite differently: leaner, more transparent, with an elegance that is reminiscent more of Burgundy than the Langhe.

Proprietà Sperino helped shape this appellation in the early 2000s and is today one of its most important voices. The Vigna Covà comes from the single vineyard of the same name at an altitude of around 350 meters — a site that gives the wine freshness and structure that cannot be created in lower sites. Ripe cherry, dried rose petals, and a hint of tar in the background — the classic aroma profile of Nebbiolo, but here with a salty minerality that reflects the sandy soil. The tannins are present but fine-grained; the finish is long and spicy.

Best served at 16–18 °C, preferably with some air in the glass. Pairs with braised beef, wild hare ragù, or a ripe Toma Piemontese.
