Vega Sicilia Unico

Vega Sicilia Unico
Unico is the benchmark of Ribera del Duero — a wine that typically matures in the cellar for over a decade before leaving the winery. The 2013 vintage was released after almost ten years of barrel and bottle aging.
Vega Sicilia was founded in 1864 and is considered the oldest winery in the Ribera del Duero. Their flagship wine, Unico, is made from Tempranillo (Tinto Fino) with a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon, grown on limestone-clay soils at an altitude of around 750 meters. Years of aging in different barrel sizes and vintages are part of their philosophy—not a compromise, but a method.
In the glass, the 2013 vintage displays a deep ruby color with a garnet rim. The nose offers aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, and blueberry, underpinned by notes of cocoa, mocha, and a hint of incense. With aeration, sage, thyme, and gingerbread emerge. On the palate, it is full-bodied, with velvety yet firm tannins and a fresh, precise acidity. The finish is long and spicy, with lingering fruit.
Drinking window: 2025–2045. Decanting recommended (at least two hours). Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs well with herb-crusted rack of lamb, braised beef shoulder, or aged Manchego cheese.
