Bodegas Pintia Toro

Pintia is Vega Sicilia's answer to the Toro region — rougher, more powerful than the main estates on the Ribera del Duero, but with the same emphasis on craftsmanship and aging potential.

The winery is located in the Denominación de Origen Toro, about 240 kilometers northwest of Madrid. The ancient Castilla y León region is known for its extreme temperatures and ancient Tinta de Toro vines, a local variety of Tempranillo. Vega Sicilia began investing in this terroir in 1997—the result is a wine that combines the wild character of the region with the cellar philosophy of one of Spain's most renowned wineries.

In the glass, a deep ruby red with violet reflections. The nose opens with blackberry, plum, and black cherry, followed by toasted cedar and a hint of tobacco from barrel aging. On the palate, Pintia is dense and full-bodied, with present but well-integrated tannins and a lively acidity that carries the long, spicy finish. Parker awarded 94 points for the 2014 vintage, and the Guía Peñín gave it 93.

Drinking window: now until 2030+. Temperature: 17–18 °C. Best with braised lamb, Ibérico pork roast or spicy hard cheese such as Manchego curado.
