Valdespino Contrabandista Sherry Amontillado Medium Dry

The Contrabandista Amontillado is a cuvée in the style of a medium-dry sherry. It is made from the well-known Palomino grape variety in the classic Amontillado maturation (biological + oxidative aging) and about 5% Pedro Ximénez with 30 grams of residual sugar, with a maturation period of 18 years.

Winemaking: The wine is fermented spontaneously in very old oak barrels. It then remains in this "Sobretabla" for about 1 year until it reaches about 12% alcohol and forms the "flor" typical of sherry. Only then is the wine separated from the lees, fortified to 15% alc. vol. with pure brandy, and filled into the first barrel level of the "Criadera".

In the glass, it presents a mahogany-shimmering color with light amber nuances. In the scent, we find aromas of dates and raisins as well as a juicy, bittersweet liveliness in the finish.

The Bodega

Grupo Estevez

Grupo Estevez is one of the big names in Sherry – rooted in Jerez de la Frontera, the heart of the Andalusian wine world. Behind the group are traditional bodegas like Valdespino and Real Tesoro, whose history dates back centuries.

Here, Sherrys of true character are created: from the dry, salty Fino to the velvety Oloroso – aged in old soleras that silently pass their knowledge from barrel to barrel.
