Surfing Chardonnay

A Chardonnay that shows what the Pfalz can do with this grape variety: fresh, clear, and without frills. Bergdolt-Reif & Nett from Duttweiler relies on steel tank maturation for the Surfing Chardonnay — this preserves the fruit and keeps the texture lively.

The winery is one of the most reliable addresses in the Pfalz. The family cultivates vineyards around Duttweiler and Ruppertsberg, where calcareous soils and the region's mild climate give Chardonnay aromatic precision. Steel tank maturation is the standard here, not a simplification — it lets the grape variety speak without inserting woody notes.

In the glass, it shows a bright yellow with green reflections. On the nose, Granny Smith apple, citrus zest, and a hint of white peach. The palate is lean and carried by an invigorating acidity that makes the wine appear fresh and direct. The finish is clean and briefly mineral.

Best served at 8–10 °C. Goes well with pan-fried cod, goat cheese salad, or a simple risotto with herbs — and is just as good as an uncomplicated companion on warm evenings.
