Stellenbosch Cabernet Sauvignon

Stellenbosch is South Africa's answer to the world's great Cabernet regions — and Stark-Condé is one of the wineries that proves this with substance.

The family-run winery is located in the Jonkershoek Mountains east of Stellenbosch. The combination of cool sea breezes from the Indian Ocean and well-drained granite soils ensures slow ripening and structured wines. Winemaker José Conde relies on classic vinification: maceration in open tanks and aging in barriques.

In the glass, the 2022 Cabernet Sauvignon displays dark blackberry and blackcurrant, along with cedarwood and a hint of graphite. On the palate, it is medium to full-bodied, with firm but not coarse tannins, supported by a fresh acidity. The finish is long with a subtle note of cocoa.

Stark-Condé

Stark-Condé: Craftsmanship Meets International Class in the Jonkershoek Valley. Behind this name lies a family history: "Stark" refers to the German roots of founder Hans Schröder, while "Condé" refers to his Cuban son-in-law, José Condé, who founded the winery in 1998. What began as an ambitious experiment with minimal equipment quickly developed into an internationally recognized name – their first Cabernet Sauvignon set new standards. In the Jonkershoek Valley near Stellenbosch, the family cultivates their vineyards organically and sustainably at altitudes between 150 and 600 meters. The weathered granite soils, the cool climate with its penetrating winter rains, and the constant wind create ideal conditions for mineral, complex wines. The philosophy is evident in the cellar: spontaneous fermentation with wild yeasts, sensitive aging in French oak, and a complete avoidance of fining and filtration. Stark-Condé is famous for its expressive Cabernet Sauvignons, but also presents elegant Syrahs and multi-layered white wines – consistently handcrafted, consistently honest.
