SL Spätburgunder Schieferlay GG QW Ahr 0.75L

A Grosses Gewächs from the Ahr — here that means: Pinot Noir from one of the northernmost red wine sites in Germany, where the narrow valley stores heat and the slate shapes the minerality. The Schieferlay GG from the Nelles winery comes from a VDP.GROSSEN LAGE® in Bad Neuenahr, south-southwest facing, steeply sloping, with slate in the subsoil and a layer of loess loam above it — a soil profile that writes depth and structure into the wine.

Weingut Nelles is one of the defining names on the Ahr, with long experience in handling Pinot Noir in this extraordinary low mountain range region. The Schieferlay site is not mass-produced — it demands artisanal care in the vineyard and in the cellar.

In the glass, the wine shows the typical profile of an Ahr Pinot Noir from steep slopes: dark cherry, blackberry, a mineral undertone that reminds one of damp slate, and a lively acidity structure that gives the wine tension. The tannins are ripe and fine, the finish long and spicy.

Best served at 16–17 °C. Goes well with game dishes, braised duck, or mature mountain cheese.
