Egon Müller Scharzhofberger Cabinet
The Scharzhofberger Kabinett from Egon Müller is a classic of German wine culture – delicate, precise, and characterized by a minerality that hardly any other growing region delivers as consistently as the Saar.
The Egon Müller winery is one of the most renowned addresses on the Saar. The Scharzhofberg site – a steep, south-facing slope above the village of Wiltingen – is considered one of Germany's great Riesling sites. Deep weathered greywacke slate stores heat, releases it slowly, and leaves an unmistakable mineral fingerprint in the wine.
In the glass, the Kabinett shows aromas of mandarin, lime zest, and a hint of wet stone. The acidity is lively but without sharpness – a sign of the cool nights on the Saar. Subtle honey tones in the finish reveal the typical Kabinett style: slightly off-dry, yet never heavy, with a long, salty finesse.
- Serving temperature: 8–10 °C
- Food: Asian cuisine with ginger or lemongrass, river trout, mild goat cheese, or pure as an aperitif
