Saragat Cannonau di Sardegna DOC

Cannonau is Sardinia's most important red grape variety—intensely colored, rich in tannins, and with an aromatic depth that few other Mediterranean red wines achieve. The Saragat from Tenuta Atzei demonstrates what Mogoro in southern Sardinia makes of it.

The grapes grow in the province of Oristano on barren, mineral-rich soils under the intense Sardinian sun—conditions that give the berries concentration and structure. Tenuta Atzei Vini is among the region's producers who cultivate Cannonau as a single varietal, true to its character.

In the glass, the Saragat shines a deep, dark color. The nose offers blackberry and dark cherry, along with dried herbs and a hint of maquis – myrtle, rosemary, and dry grass. On the palate, it is velvety with balanced acidity that enlivens the medium body, and tannins that are well-integrated without being intrusive. The finish remains spicy and fruity. Luca Maroni awarded it 90 points (2021), and it received a gold medal at the 2023 Berlin Wine Trophy.

Serving temperature 16–18 °C. Pairs well with grilled lamb, Sardinian Mirto salami, braised dishes with olives or a mature Pecorino Sardo.

Tenuta Atzei Vini: Weinberge am Vulkan Arci in Sardinien, Weingut von Vini Fantini und lokalen Winzern in Mogoro.

Tenuta Atzei Vini

Tenuta Atzei – where Sardinian winemaking meets mainland Italian expertise. The partnership between Vini Fantini and the local winemakers in Mogoro is pure passion. At the foot of the extinct volcano Arci, the vines thrive in mineral-rich soils. Phosphorus, potassium, magnesium – you can taste it. The winegrowers still work with horses and plows today. Not out of folklore, but out of respect for the land. With Monica, Cannonau, and Vermentino grapes, they create wines of unparalleled fruit and elegance. The "ARU" cuvée, made from Monica and Carignano, is the highlight. Tradition meets modern know-how. Sardinia in a glass.
