Quinta de Sao Francisco Tinto Obidos DOC

A red wine from the DOC Óbidos , one of the oldest wine regions in Portugal north of Lisbon – known for its calcareous soils and Atlantic-influenced climate, which brings freshness to the fruit.

Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal has cultivated Quinta de São Francisco for decades and is one of the region's established wineries. The Tinto demonstrates Óbidos' strengths: rich, red fruit without heaviness.

In the glass, aromas of cherry and raspberry mingle with spicy notes of pepper and a mineral undertone that reflects its origin in calcareous soil. The body is medium to full-bodied, the acidity well-integrated – not an angular wine, but one that combines approachability and depth. The finish is spicy and pleasantly long.

The gold medal at the Berlin Wine Trophy 2025 (2020 vintage) underlines the winery's consistency.

Companhia Agricola do Sanguinhal

Since 1926, Companhia Agrícola do Sanguinhal has been making wines that tell the story of their home – the Óbidos region in the heart of Portugal, nestled between Atlantic breezes and ancient vines. Three quintas, three distinct characters: Quinta do Sanguinhal, Quinta das Cerejeiras, and Quinta de São Francisco. Each estate brings its own unique expression – and together they create a portrait of Portugal that you can taste in the glass: fresh, vibrant, and profound. What sets this family winery apart? The balance between respecting traditional craftsmanship and the courage to evolve. Sustainable vineyard management is an integral part of their approach – not as a marketing promise, but as a philosophy that has been practiced for generations. The DOC wines from Óbidos are still a true hidden gem – exactly what we at Vinoscout love.
