Pinot Gris Grand Cru Kessler AC Alsace Grand Cru 0.75L

Pinot Gris from the Grand Cru Kessler — that means sandstone-influenced soil, one of the warmest and driest sites in Alsace, and a wine style that combines fullness with tension. Domaines Schlumberger has been managing over 140 hectares in Alsace since the 19th century and is thus one of the largest individual owners in the region — the Kessler is one of their most renowned plots.

In the glass, the wine shows the classic profile of a Luscious Pinot Gris from a great site: candied apricot, quince, and a hint of ginger, underpinned by a spicy, slightly smoky note that is typical for the grape variety on sandstone. The residual sugar feels integrated due to the natural acid structure of the terroir — not a heavy, sticky style, but a wine with drive and length on the finish.

It pairs best with dishes that combine sweetness and spice: roasted duck breast with plum sauce, Pâté, mature Munster, or a strong blue cheese. Drinking temperature: 10–12 °C. Those who use it as a dessert accompaniment should reach for Tarte Tatin or an almond cake with apricots.

Domaines Schlumberger

Domaines Schlumberger, located in Guebwiller in southern Alsace, has been family-owned since 1810 and is one of France's most prestigious wineries. Today, the seventh generation runs the estate: Séverine and Thomas Schlumberger cultivate approximately 140 hectares of vineyards – the largest contiguous AOC vineyard in Alsace, 70 hectares of which are in four Grand Cru sites. On steep slopes with gradients of up to 50 percent, tended by draft horses and supported by over 50 kilometers of stone retaining walls, wines of great depth are produced. Schlumberger uses only its own grapes and consciously produces only half of what the law would permit.
