Ormeasco di Pornassio Sciac-tra

The Sciac-trà is a Ligurian specialty: a rosé wine made from 100% Ormeasco, the grape variety known in neighboring Piedmont as Dolcetto. The name explains the method – “crush and draw off” describes the short skin contact that gives this wine its bright pink-red color and its fresh, fruity aromas.

Lupi de Peq Agri manages vineyards in the Pornassio zone in the Ligurian hinterland, where Ormeasco has its own independent DOC appellation. The grape variety has a long history here and shows a completely different side in this rosé form than the tannin-rich red wines of the Piedmontese.

A transparent pink-red in the glass. On the nose, ripe strawberry and sweet cherry, uncomplicated and direct. On the palate, dry, with pronounced freshness and a slightly salty minerality in the finish – typical for the proximity to the Ligurian coast. Not a heavy wine, but a lively one that whets the appetite.

Served at 10–12 °C, it pairs well with trenette al pesto, grilled fish, or vegetables from the grill. It also cuts a fine figure as an uncomplicated companion for an aperitivo.
