Order of Malta Merlot dry

An Austrian Merlot with the maturity and structure of a mature Burgundy: dark ruby red in the glass, velvety tannins, long finish.

The Malteser Ritterorden Castle Winery is one of Austria's most traditional wineries — operated by the Sovereign Military Order of Malta, whose winemaking history stretches back centuries. The vineyards are located in Lower Austria, where the continental climate favors Merlot grapes with good ripeness and aromatic intensity.

The nose reveals tobacco, dark chocolate, and subtle roasted aromas—a clear indication of substantial barrel aging. On the palate, the wine is elegant: a delicate touch of chocolate, well-integrated oak, and noticeable extract sweetness. The tannins are fully ripe and soft, the finish long and spicy. This is not a wine that demands attention—but one that convinces through its harmony.

Rated 91 points at the World Wine Championship 2017 , Gold medal at the Berlin Wine Trophy 2017 .

Castle Winery of the Order of Malta

The Mailberg terroir – a combination of continental climate and sheltered location in the small valley, the "Mailberg Valley." Calcareous soils with loamy sands and loess characterize the wines: delicate, harmonious acidity, perfect ripeness. Around 1,800 hours of sunshine, ideal rainfall – this is where powerful red wines and characterful white wines are produced. Since 1969, the Lenz Moser winery has cultivated the estate of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. 50 hectares, twelve individual vineyard sites, cultivated according to the Lenz Moser high-quality training system. Zweigelt and Merlot were added in 1973, and Lower Austria's first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982. A wine region with history and character.
