Lower Austria is Austria's largest wine-growing region, situated on the border with the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The typical grape variety of this region is Grüner Veltliner. The market town of Mailberg is a well-known wine-growing village, nestled in a valley basin and surrounded by its vineyards. Excellent wines, especially Grüner Veltliner, ripen here with a very individual character. The annual cellar lane festival in June offers an opportunity to discover these fine wines. Yellow-green in color, with a pronounced Veltliner peppery bouquet, underpinned by delicate stone fruit notes. Very elegant on the palate, peppery and spicy. The Mailberg terroir – a combination of continental climate and sheltered location in the small valley, the "Mailberg Valley." Calcareous soils with loamy sands and loess characterize the wines: delicate, harmonious acidity, perfect ripeness. Around 1,800 hours of sunshine, ideal rainfall – this is where powerful red wines and characterful white wines are produced. Since 1969, the Lenz Moser winery has cultivated the estate of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta. 50 hectares, twelve individual vineyard sites, cultivated according to the Lenz Moser high-quality training system. Zweigelt and Merlot were added in 1973, and Lower Austria's first Cabernet Sauvignon in 1982. A wine region with history and character.
