La Motte Sauvignon Blanc

A Sauvignon Blanc from Franschhoek that consistently brings the cool hillside sites of the Western Cape into the bottle: fresh, varietally typical, with a clear mineral line.

La Motte is one of South Africa's oldest wineries — the history of the estate dates back to the 17th century. The sites in Franschhoek benefit from the Atlantic influence and cool mountain winds, which allow for long ripening periods and preserve the acidic structure.

In the glass, straw yellow with lemon-yellow reflections. The nose shows green gooseberry, blackcurrant leaf, and lemon zest — classic for Sauvignon Blanc, without the lush tropical fruit of warmer vintages. On the palate, a pleasant melt follows, lively fruit acidity, and a mineral note that fades into a hint of grapefruit. Medium-long, refreshing finish.

Serving temperature: 8–10 °C. Goes well with grilled cod, goat cheese salad with vinaigrette, or a light asparagus risotto.

La Motte

The La Motte winery in Franschhoek is a meeting point of the fine arts – winemaking and the exquisite vocal artistry of Henneli Rupert, South Africa's star mezzo-soprano and winery owner. She took over the estate, acquired by her father Dr. Anton Rupert in 1970, after his death and today, together with her husband Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg, CEO of La Motte, leads the company. Edmund Terblanche is responsible for the winemaking at La Motte. Under his guidance, the La Motte Sauvignon Blanc has become one of the benchmark wines in South Africa, a staple on restaurant wine lists. For red wines, La Motte focuses heavily on Syrah and Syrah blends.
