La Motte Classic Collection Syrah

A Syrah from the Western Cape that begins with red fruit and adds a pinch of black pepper. The Classic Collection from La Motte stands for accessible, balanced red wines from Franschhoek.

La Motte is located in the Franschhoek Valley, one of South Africa's most traditional wine-growing regions. The estate dates back to 1695 and has been owned by the Rupert family since 1970. The grapes for this Syrah grow in Franschhoek and carry the natural fruitiness of the grape variety.

In the glass, you will find red berries and mulberries, complemented by a ripe plum note. Black pepper provides spice, and a subtle wood note rounds off the picture. The fruit is in the foreground, the spice sets accents, and the overall impression remains balanced.

Serve it at 16 to 18 °C. It pairs well with grilled lamb chops, braised beef dishes with bell peppers and tomatoes, pepper steak, or a well-seasoned burger.

The Winery

La Motte

The La Motte winery in Franschhoek is a meeting place for the fine arts - that of viticulture and that of the high art of singing by Hanneli Rupert, South Africa's star mezzo-soprano and winery owner.

She took over the winery, which her father Dr. Anton Rupert acquired in 1970, after his death and today stands at the head of the company together with her husband Hanneli Rupert-Koegelenberg, CEO of La Motte.

The oenological management at La Motte is the responsibility of Edmund Terblanche. Under his leadership, the La Motte Sauvignon Blanc has developed into one of the benchmarks in South Africa, which is an essential part of restaurant wine lists. When it comes to red wines, La Motte focuses heavily on the topic of Syrah and Syrah blends.
