Canonkop Cadette Cape Blend

The Kadette is the entry point into the Kanonkop universe — and it doesn't do things by halves. Pinotage meets Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc to create a classic Cape Blend from the heart of Stellenbosch.

Kanonkop is one of South Africa's most renowned wineries. Nestled at the foot of the hill of the same name, the estate has been synonymous with powerful, age-worthy red wines for decades and is considered one of the most important producers of Pinotage on an international level. The Kadette bears this hallmark – more approachable in style, but with the same meticulous care in the cellar: 14 months of aging in French oak barriques from Nevers and Vicard.

In the glass, dark cherry, blackberry, and a hint of clove are evident, underpinned by subtle smoky notes and vanilla from the oak aging. The palate is medium-bodied with soft, well-integrated tannins and a fresh fruitiness that carries the long finish. John Platter awarded four stars to the 2017 and 2018 vintages, while Tim Atkin gave the 2017 vintage 91 points.

Serving suggestion: 16–18 °C, ready to drink now. Pairs well with grilled lamb, sirloin steak or a hearty lentil stew.
