Justino's Madeira Fine Rich DOC

Madeira is not a port — even though it is occasionally listed as such. Justino's Fine Rich is a classic entry-level Madeira from Justino's, the island's largest producer with roots dating back to 1870. The cooperative behind the brand cultivates vineyards on Madeira's steep volcanic terraces, where the Atlantic climate and basalt-rich soils shape the wine's fundamental character.

In the glass, it shines a rich amber. The nose reveals dried figs, caramel, and a hint of walnut—aromas that arise from the oxidative aging process that distinguishes Madeira from all other fortified wines in the world. Three years of aging in used wooden barrels give the wine depth without overpowering the oak.

On the palate, the Rich style is confirmed: mild, well-integrated sweetness, followed by the typical Madeira acidity that gives the wine freshness and a long, slightly salty finish. This acid structure is the hallmark of the style—it prevents the wine from feeling heavy and makes it surprisingly vibrant.

Serving temperature: 12–14 °C. Pairs well with blue cheese, walnut cake, or a dessert with dried fruit and dark chocolate. Also delicious on its own after a meal—a small glass is enough.

The island's rugged volcanic landscape and the knowledge of long-gone winemaking families – all of this is captured in every bottle. What makes Justino's special is its respect for the craft, combined with the courage to evolve. Tradition and curiosity are not mutually exclusive here – they are interdependent. The result is wines that will surprise you: complex yet approachable, with a depth you won't soon forget.
