Hugel Pinot Gris Classic

Pinot Gris from Alsace is no light matter – and the Classic from Hugel is no exception. Lush texture, ripe fruit, a hint of spice: a white wine with substance.

Hugel & Fils is one of the most famous names in Alsace. Based in Riquewihr since 1639, the family has helped shape Alsatian wine law – the concept of Vendanges Tardives originated from their initiative. The Classic line shows the typical house style: accessible, fruit-forward, varietal.

In the glass, apricot and ripe pear appear, underscored by a hint of pistachio and fine vanilla. The palate is broad and oily in texture – typical for the grape variety – with a fresh line of acidity that keeps everything in shape. The finish is round and persistent, with a slightly spicy note.

Serving temperature: 10–12 °C. Pairs well with tarte flambée with crème fraîche, strong Munster cheese, or a classic Coq au Riesling. Also a solid choice as an accompaniment to Asian curries with coconut milk.

Hugel & Fils

Hugel & Fils – the soul of Alsace. Since 1639, this name has been inextricably linked with viticulture in Riquewihr. Today, Jean-Philippe, Etienne, and Marc Hugel run the family winery in the 13th generation – a worldwide synonym for Alsace wines.

Their 30 hectares in and around Riquewihr include half Grand Cru sites like Schoenenbourg, the vines on average 35 years old. Hugel consciously refrains from Grand Cru labeling – their own quality standards are stricter. Riesling, Gewürztraminer, Pinot Gris, and Pinot Noir unfold incomparable finesse here.

Member of the Primum Familiae Vini, awarded by Wine Spectator – and still a family business. Alsace, as it should be.
