Estate Red

A South African Cabernet Franc that combines the cool elegance of Vergelegen with the warmth of the Western Cape — red-fruited, structured, and with an unmistakable herbal touch.

Vergelegen is one of the most historically significant estates in South Africa: founded in 1700, it lies at the foot of the Hottentots-Holland Mountains in the Stellenbosch appellation. The winery is known for its consistent focus on quality and is one of the few South African operations with an international benchmark status. The Western Cape terroir — Mediterranean climate, well-drained soils, cool sea breezes from the Indian and Atlantic Oceans — particularly benefits the Cabernet Franc.

In the glass, the Estate Red shows aromas of red currant, pomegranate, and fresh herbs, underscored by a hint of cedar wood and tobacco. The tannins are present but finely woven; the acidity keeps the wine lively without sharpness. The finish is long and slightly spicy.

Best served at 16–18 °C. Pairs with lamb chop with rosemary, grilled beef fillet, or a strong goat cheese. Also convincing as a companion to pasta with tomato-meat sauce.

Vergelegen

The Vergelegen wine estate is located on the South African coast of False Bay, less than an hour from Cape Town. Founded in 1700 by Adriann van der Stell, it is now owned by André van Rensburg. The estate's vines grow at altitudes between 140 and 310 meters, in clay soils. Clay soils are particularly well-suited for vine growth due to their water retention capacity. The climate in this region is characterized by mild temperatures thanks to its proximity to the Atlantic Ocean. The Vergelegen wine estate cultivates grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Sauvignon Blanc, Semillon, and Chardonnay for its wines.
