Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve
The Don Maximiano Founder's Reserve is the flagship wine of Errázuriz from the Aconcagua Valley — a Cabernet Sauvignon that combines concentration and precision without feeling heavy.
The Aconcagua Valley lies approximately 100 kilometers north of Santiago, nestled between the Andes Mountains and the Pacific Ocean. The dramatic temperature fluctuations between day and night result in slow ripening and pronounced aromatics—ideal conditions for complex Cabernet Sauvignon. Don Maximiano Errázuriz founded the winery in 1870 and was one of the first to plant Cabernet Sauvignon in the region; the Founder's Reserve bears his name as a tribute to this heritage.
In the glass, a dense profile unfolds: blackberry, blackcurrant, and dark plum form the core, complemented by cocoa, vanilla, and a subtle toasty spice. Mineral graphite notes lend the wine a cool, precise contour. The palate is full-bodied and structured, the tannins youthful yet well-integrated—with clear fruit and a long, focused finish of dark berry fruit and spice.
The aging potential is considerable. If opened now, decanting is recommended – for at least 45 minutes . Serving temperature 17–18 °C. Pairs well with beef fillet, braised lamb shoulder, or aged Manchego cheese.
