Cloudy Bay Te Koko

Te Koko is Cloudy Bay's answer to the question of what happens when you give Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc time and wood: not a mass-produced wine, but a serious white wine with depth and complexity.

Cloudy Bay Vineyards has been a defining force in the Marlborough region of New Zealand's South Island since the 1980s. While the classic Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc is known for its fresh, aromatic directness, the Te Koko takes a different approach: spontaneous fermentation and aging give it a texture and complexity that clearly distinguishes it from typical Marlborough profiles.

In the glass, it displays notes of white peach, nectarine, and honey, along with kaffir lime and a hint of lemongrass. The texture is round and ripe, the acidity present but integrated—not a sharp cut, but a mineral and spicy line that carries and invigorates the finish.

Te Koko pairs well with seafood dishes that have some substance: seared scallops, salmon tartare with capers, or a creamy lobster bisque. It also goes well with goat cheese or a light chicken dish with citrus and herbs. Serving temperature: 10–12 °C.

Cloudy Bay Vineyards Limited

Cloudy Bay – the wine that made New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc world-famous. Founded in 1985 by David Hohnen, it is named after the stretch of coastline that James Cook christened "Cloudy Bay" in 1770. The first vintage caused a sensation in the 1980s. British wine critic Oz Clarke called it "probably the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world." Today, Cloudy Bay belongs to LVMH, but it remains what it has always been: an icon of clear, powerful, and distinctive New Zealand wine.
