Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc

Marlborough redefined Sauvignon Blanc – and Cloudy Bay was there from the very beginning. This wine shows why the region at the northern tip of the South Island became so famous for this grape variety.

Cloudy Bay Vineyards is one of Marlborough's pioneers: since 1985, they have been producing Sauvignon Blancs that have set the global standard for the style. The vineyards are located in the Wairau Valley, where cool nights and long hours of sunshine contribute to pronounced aromatics and vibrant acidity.

In the glass, it displays a clear straw yellow color. The nose offers aromas of makrut lime, passion fruit, and white nectarine – intense but not overpowering. On the palate, ripe citrus fruit follows, along with guava and a hint of peach, lingered by a salty, almost stony note. The acidity is present and invigorating, the finish dry and refreshingly long.

Serving suggestion: Serve well chilled at 8–10 °C. Pairs well with grilled sea bass, scallops with lemon butter, goat cheese, or an Asian glass noodle salad. Drink now – no further storage required.

Cloudy Bay Vineyards Limited

Cloudy Bay – the wine that made New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc world-famous. Founded in 1985 by David Hohnen, it is named after the stretch of coastline that James Cook christened "Cloudy Bay" in 1770. The first vintage caused a sensation in the 1980s. British wine critic Oz Clarke called it "probably the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world." Today, Cloudy Bay belongs to LVMH, but it remains what it has always been: an icon of clear, powerful, and distinctive New Zealand wine.
