Cloudy Bay Chardonnay

Cloudy Bay Chardonnay
Chardonnay from Marlborough – at Cloudy Bay, this is not a light berry calculation, but a wine with real weight: ripe fruit, oak aging, and a clear freshness that holds the wine together.
Cloudy Bay is one of the wineries that put Marlborough on the world map. Since the 1980s, they have been cultivating in the Wairau Plain – an area with long sunny days, cool nights, and well-drained gravel soil. It is precisely this temperature difference between day and night that preserves the acidity in the Chardonnay, even when the grapes ripen fully.
In the glass, white peaches and apricot appear, underscored by citrus peel and a hint of fresh hay. The oak aging brings gentle toast notes and some vanilla into play without masking the fruit. The palate is full-bodied, with yellow stone fruit in the foreground and a lively acidity that keeps the finish lean.
Serving temperature: 10–12 °C
Pairs well with: Roasted veal, chicken with lemon thyme, scallops with butter sauce, or a mature Brie

Cloudy Bay – the wine that made New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc world-famous. Founded in 1985 by David Hohnen, it is named after the stretch of coastline that James Cook christened "Cloudy Bay" in 1770. The first vintage caused a sensation in the 1980s. British wine critic Oz Clarke called it "probably the best Sauvignon Blanc in the world." Today, Cloudy Bay belongs to LVMH, but it remains what it has always been: an icon of clear, powerful, and distinctive New Zealand wine.
