Cabernet Sauvignon dry II Edition

This Cabernet Sauvignon from Christian Nett in the Pfalz region shows what Germany's warmest wine region can achieve with this international grape variety: ripeness, substance, and a clear structure without heaviness.

Bergdolt-Reif & Nett is one of the renowned addresses in the Pfalz. The winery unites three families and cultivates vineyards around Duttweiler and Ruppertsberg — soils of limestone, sandstone, and loam that give the Cabernet Sauvignon sufficient warmth and depth to ripen fully. The II Edition in the winery's range stands for an accessible, characterful entry into the line.

In the glass, it shows dark berry fruit — blackberry and blackcurrant — with a hint of bell pepper and mild tobacco. The tannins are present but not edgy, the acidity well-integrated. The finish is medium-length and dry with a slight spicy note.

Good with grilled beef, leg of lamb with rosemary, or a strong hard cheese like Manchego. Best served at 16–18 °C.

Weingut Bergdolt-Reif & Nett

Five generations, one place: Duttweiler in the Palatinate. The Bergdolt-Reif & Nett winery has deep roots here – the historic sandstone vaulted cellar dates back to 1838, and some of the wines still mature in it today. At the same time, the winery opened a new building in 2017 that shows where the journey is heading: creative, independent, without a template.

Since Christian Nett began helping to steer the ship in the early 2000s, the range has been anything but predictable. Clear wines of origin from the Palatinate stand alongside so-called concept wines, where an idea dictates the style. Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Franc, Shiraz, and Merlot show that the Palatinate is capable of more than the expected.
