Biondi-Santi Brunello di Montalcino DOCG 0.75L

Biondi-Santi is not a name that needs explaining — the Tenuta Greppo winery in Montalcino invented the Brunello as a wine type. Since the 19th century, the family has worked with the clone of Sangiovese Grosso that they selected themselves and which is known today as Brunello. What Ferruccio Biondi-Santi began, his descendants continue today: strict selection, long aging times, no compromise on the style of the house.

The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino shows what Sangiovese can achieve on the galestro and clay-rich soils around Montalcino: aromas of sour cherry, dried rose, and tobacco, underpinned by a spicy herbal note that is typical for the altitude of Greppo. The palate is tightly structured, with firm but silky tannins and a lively acidity that carries the long, mineral finish.

This wine needs time — or at least air. Decanting: at least two hours. Serving temperature 16–18 °C. At the table, it pairs with braised wild boar, Bistecca alla Fiorentina, or aged Pecorino di Pienza.
